CMHP – Update
A quick news update on Cairngorm Mountain Hertitage Project. We now have two contractors on site, McGowan Outdoor Access (MOA) on Carn Ban Mor and Upland Access Ltd on the Cairngorm Plateau. The works on the plateau consist of “light touch techniques” where the team are subtly moving boulders and landscaping to define and create a sustainable path surface. The results so far have been excellent, with the path from Cairngorm Summit to the path junction at 1141 covered. We can see almost instant results with walkers now tending to stick to the defined lines, hopefully vegetation can now start to recover as a rersult. The work on Carn Ban Mor by contrast is much more involved. MOA are using a mini excavator alongside skilled pathworkers to repair the significant erosion scar on the approach flank to the summit. Work is progresssing well and the team are about a quarter of the way through the site. All materials are being won on site, stone and aggregate, for the path surface and drainage features. The results are impressive so far, and it’s shaping up to be a fine path.
