COAT Training in MacGillycuddy’s Reeks

The second phase of Upland Path Training is now complete at MacGillycuddy Reeks in the Iveragh Peninsula, South Kerry.  This is consultancy work being done through COAT Trading Ltd, and is a first for Ireland.  The overarching objective is to training people from local businesses alongside unemployed people in order to create a skilled workforce in South Kerry.  This should create contract teams that can take up mountain path contract opportunities in Ireland with a high degree of skill and sensitivity to environment.

The Training is being delivered in 3 phases, with contract Trainers brought in to provide the highest standards of training.  The first two phases of training have been provided by Matt McConway (Upland Access Ltd), who is one of Scotland’s leading mountain path contractors, and has a wealth of experience built up over the last 20 years to share with our friends in Ireland.  A third phase of training, focusing on machine paths, is scheduled for March 2016.

The work is being carried out on behalf of South Kerry Development Company, and in close consultation with the MacGillycuddy Reeks Mountain Access Forum.
