NEW WALKING GROUP IN TOMINTOUL!

NEW WALKING GROUP IN TOMINTOUL!

“Do you ever fancy going for a safe led walk, but you don’t have anyone to go with, or perhaps you don’t really want to walk alone, and you’re not sure where to go. Well, maybe the NEW Tomintoul Friday Walking Group is for you!

We meet every Friday morning at 10.00 at the Smugglers Hostel, Tomintoul. We have a number of local volunteer leaders and we are looking for newcomers to join the group. The walks are not too strenuous and you’ll be out in the fresh air, whatever the weather. It could be part of your health regime for this year, and is a good way to make new friends and get fitter. Local GP, Dr O’Loughlin said; “This is a great new initiative for the village and we support walking as a great way to stay healthy.”

The walks are estimated to be approximately 1-1.5 hours long, low level, and with good underfoot terrain. All you need is some sturdy walking shoes and a waterproof jacket. We can accommodate slow walkers so please do not be put off, just come along. Our walks are led by 2 members, who have been trained to lead a short Health Walk and they will have checked out the route beforehand and who will take care to ensure that everyone is keeping up. We try and do a circular walk but occasionally we have to come back the same way but the view will be different! Cattie Anderson, Scottish Natural Heritage, said “It’s great to see a new walking group starting up and we’re happy to support this initiative.  Walking in a group is a fantastic way to enjoy the countryside in a safe and friendly way, and even forget about the weather!

The Tomintoul Friday Walking Group are a friendly group, and will always welcome new faces to join us on our walks. Mike Fletcher, from the Tomintoul Community Association said, “We are really pleased to support this new group to improve health and develop our community further. The short walks will be followed by a cup of tea or coffee, everyone will be made most welcome. If you require further information please contact me, Mike Fletcher on
